McGuigan: 'Frampton deserves world title shot'

Manager Barry McGuigan has admitted that Irish super-bantamweight Carl Frampton has mixed feelings after Kiko Martinez won the IBF title last month.

Frampton stopped Martinez in February, and after seeing the Irishman's career halted due to an injury, McGuigan has revealed that they are trying to find motivation from their former opponent's success.

The 52-year-old told BBC Sport: "We are frustrated by it, but also buoyed by the fact that if Kiko Martinez can win the world title, we are convinced that Frampton will do the same."

"We believe that we are in touching distance of a world title shot, but nothing happens unless we get past Parodi.

"Carl has got to win that fight and look impressive in doing so."

Frampton returns to the ring on October 19 when he faces Jeremy Parodi.
