Saul Alvarez: 'Gennady Golovkin ducked fight offer'

Saul Alvarez accuses Gennady Golovkin of rejecting multiple fight offers.

Saul Alvarez has accused rival Gennady Golovkin of rejecting the offer of a lucrative match between the pair.

The Mexican middleweight made the revelation in the wake of his victory over Briton Liam Smith, claiming that the Kazakhstani's camp were given multiple opportunities to make the fight happen.

"I fear nobody," he told HBO. "I was born for this and even though many people may not like it, I'm the best fighter right now.

"About a month ago, we offered him twice or three times as much to make the fight. I didn't want to say anything because I respect my rivals. He didn't want to accept. We're a team. I'm not going to blame my promoter or anyone else.

"I fear nobody. I'm 26 years old, I've fought the best in history and as I've already said, I'm the best at this moment in time."

Golovkin has taken to Instagram to respond to Alvarez's claims, accusing his rival of talking "nonsense".

Alvarez now holds the WBO light-middleweight title after defeating Smith in the ninth round in Dallas.
