Saul Alvarez: 'I will face Gennady Golovkin at 160lbs'

WBC middleweight champion Saul Alvarez says that he has "no problem" facing fellow world title holder Gennady Golovkin at 160lbs.

Saul Alvarez has claimed that "weight will not be an issue" when he faces Gennady Golovkin in what is arguably the biggest fight in the sport.

'Canelo' - the WBC middleweight champion - recorded a sixth-round knockout victory over Amir Khan in Las Vegas on Saturday night to set up a unification showdown with Golovkin, who currently possesses the WBA and IBF belts.

While it remains unclear whether the pair will meet in September as previously ordered by the WBC, Alvarez has indicated that he has no problem with competing at the middleweight limit of 160lbs, despite his previous bouts coming at below that weight.

The Mexican is quoted by BBC Sport as saying: "I will fight him at 160lb, no problem. Weight will not be an issue - we can even fight for no belts. I would have fought him in the ring tonight. I'm not afraid of anyone."

The other title holder in the division is Billy Joe Saunders, with the British fighter previously having received an offer to face Golovkin earlier in the year.
