Former UK Athletics coach banned for life

Shamed former UK Athletics coach George Skafidas has been handed a lifetime ban from sport by UK Anti-Doping for offences related to sprinter Bernice Wilson.

The 31-year-old tested positive for testosterone and clenbuterol in 2011 to earn a four-year suspension.

Skafidas admitted to nine rule violations committed in both 2011 and 2015, following the news that Wilson also tested positive for clomiphene in an out-of-competition test in February last year.

UKAD chief executive Nicole Sapstead said: "Here is a coach who set up and ran a training group for young and talented athletes; athletes like Bernice who had a bright and promising future in the sport.

"He was put into a position of trust, he abused that trust and as a result categorically destroyed a career."

Skafidas moved to England after the 2004 Athens Olympics.
