Artem Surkov: 'I deserved gold-medal victory in men's Greco-Roman 66kg final'

Russian Federation wrestler Artem Surkov says that he fully deserved his gold-medal win over Migran Arutyunyan in the men's Greco-Roman 66kg final at the European Games.

Russian Federation wrestler Artem Surkov believes that he fully deserved his gold-medal victory over Migran Arutyunyan in the men's Greco-Roman 66kg final.

Surkov overcame his Armenian counterpart with a 3-0 triumph at the Heydar Aliyev Arena on Sunday, and has made clear that he thought his victory proved to be the correct outcome in Baku.

"Of all the bouts I fought, the final was the toughest, because there was so much responsibility on me to win. I was more active than him," Surkov told reporters after the contest.

"We met many years ago when he was in Russia. He was the national senior champion and I was a junior. I lost then, but I have made good progress and I deserved my revenge today."

Russia currently sit behind leaders Azerbaijan in the tournament's medals table.
