Oliver Hassler blames injury for European Games exit

Oliver Hassler says that injuries played a part in his first-round exit at the European Games.

Oliver Hassler has suggested that his inability to regain full fitness following injury was behind his first-round exit at the European Games in Baku.

The German, who picked up a silver medal at last year's World Championships, was beaten 3-0 by Islam Magomedov in the men's 98kg Greco-Roman wrestling qualification phase.

However, Hassler has revealed that recent injury problems were a factor in his preparations.

He told reporters: "I had an injury behind me and now I wanted to come back, but I have no feeling for the situation in this moment.

"The injury is okay, but I haven't been able to fully recover from the injury last year.

"Right now my heart is broken. I know I'm not 100% yet, but in my mind I want to be that."

The medals in the 98kg category will be decided later on Saturday.
