Interview: Heather Sellars

Sports Mole talks to Team GB's Heather Sellars following her 15th-place finish at the European Games in Baku.

Shortly after competing at the 2015 European Games, Sports Mole caught up with Team GB triathlete Heather Sellars, who finished 15th in Baku.

The 24-year-old, who posted a time of 2:05:27 in Azerbaijan, revealed that she was 'kind of pleased' with the race, but did concede that a top-10 finish was her goal pre-competition.

Sellers was the only Team GB athlete competing in the women's triathlon in Baku following the withdrawal of both Helen Jenkins and Jess Learmonth.

What are your initial feelings about the race?

"I am pleased, kind of. I would have liked to have finished in the top 10, but I didn't have the best of swims and we had to chase to the chase park in front and not many people were doing any work. We managed to get to them, and then no-one was doing anything which was quite frustrating because we were falling behind the three girls in front.

"I knew we weren't going to catch them and then on the run, my legs were not there today because I did so much on the bike. I am happy, but I would have preferred to have had a top-10 finish."

What about the experience as a whole, have you enjoyed it?

"It is an amazing event and an amazing experience as well. The Athletes' Village is amazing, the food caters for everyone, the accommodation is excellent and everyone is really friendly and helpful.

"I haven't seen too much of Azerbaijan as a country as we have not been out of the Village, but it has been a really good experience."

Is it time to rest now? What is next on your schedule?

"We leave on Monday! I will come and support the boys tomorrow, but we are going to St Moritz, altitude training for a month so no rest!"
