Alistair Brownlee to miss World Series final due to ankle surgery

Alistair Brownlee to undergo ankle surgery

Alistair Brownlee will miss the Triathlon World Series final due to an ankle injury.

Brownlee damaged his ankle during an Olympic test event in Rio de Janeiro on August 2, and will have surgery on Wednesday.

"There has been a fairly lengthy consultation to consider all of the options, and Alistair has been fully involved in this," British Triathlon performance director Brendan Purcell told reporters.

"Finishing this season was initially a priority, but given all of the advice offered by the medical teams, having the surgery now was the preferred option."

The 27-year-old won the gold medal at the London 2012 Olympics.
