Great Britain lose men's taekwondo bronze to Afghanistan

Great Britain's Martin Stamper narrowly lost out on a bronze medal in a close men's taekwondo decider.

Stamper was aiming to be Team GB's first male taekwondo medallist, but was pipped in a tight bout by Afghanistan's Rohullah Nikpah.

The Liverpool man took an early lead with an offensive kick, finishing the first round 1-0 ahead.

Nikpah rallied and produced the decisive moment of the contest in the second, landing a clean strike on Stamper's jaw to earn three crucial points.

Despite a brave performance the Brit was unable to recover, losing by five points to three after a tight final round.
