Record-breaking Ollie Hynd takes freestyle swimming gold

Ollie Hynd has won Great Britain's fourth gold medal of the Rio 2016 Paralympics on the opening day of the event, with a record-breaking display in the men's S8 400m freestyle.

The 21-year-old's time of 4:21.89 was more than enough to see off all his challengers, setting a new world record in the process and adding to his London 2012 crown.

Hynd tore apart brother Sam's record, which had stood for the past eight years, with China's Xu Haijiao finishing second and compatriot Wang Yinan - a gold medallist in this event in London - trailing even further behind the impressive pacesetter to take third.

Having built up a sizeable lead, Hynd showed no signs of dropping his relentless pace to take the first of three golds promised at these Games in quite some style.

Britain have also claimed three cycling gold medals on the opening day in Rio, coming in the men's B 4000m individual pursuit, women's C5 3000m individual pursuit and women's C1-2-3 3000m individual pursuit.
