Mark Foster backs GB's Adam Peaty for Olympic gold in Rio 2016

Mark Foster believes that British swimmer Adam Peaty can come home with Olympic gold from Rio next year.

Retired swimmer Mark Foster is confident that Adam Peaty will be "right in the mix" for Olympic gold in Rio next year.

The 20-year-old Brit burst onto the scene last year by winning two gold medals at the Commonwealth Games, as well as four European titles and setting a new 50m breaststroke world record.

Foster believes that much of Peaty's success is down to his strong partnership with coach Mel Marshall.

"Adam Peaty is a phenomenal athlete," Foster told Sportsbeat. "All swimmers are, but what sets him apart is he has the right coach. You can have all the talent in the world but if you're with the wrong coach it just won't happen for you.

"I don't even think he needs to improve, even though he is improving, but if he maintains where he was last year, he'll be right in the mix for Olympic gold in Rio."

This year, Peaty will try to seal a place in the Great Britain squad for the World Championships in Kazan, Russia.
