GB's Lauren Quigley reaches 100m backstroke final, Elizabeth Simmonds misses out

Great Britain's Lauren Quigley will go up against the USA's Missy Franklin in tomorrow's 100m backstroke final, while Elizabeth Simmonds misses out.

Great Britain's Lauren Quigley has grabbed a place in the 100m backstroke final at the World Championships in Kazan, but teammate Elizabeth Simmonds has missed out.

Quigley finished third in the first semi-final in 59.71 seconds, which resulted in an eighth spot in tomorrow's showdown alongside the USA's four-time Olympic champion Missy Franklin.

The 20-year-old will race in lane five on Tuesday after she slipped at the start of her semi-final before touching the wall in 59.42s.

Simmonds finished her race in 1:00.40, which was the 13th-fastest time overall and not enough to earn a spot in the final.
