Britain's Ben Proud misses out on a medal by 0.49s, settling for eighth in the 50m freestyle final at the World Swimming Championships in Russia.

British swimmer Ben Proud had to settle for eighth in a closely-fought 50m freestyle final at the World Swimming Championships in Kazan this afternoon.

France's Florent Manaudou secured the gold, posting a time of 21.19s to finish almost 0.4s ahead of nearest rival Nathan Adrian of America.

Brazil's Bruno Fratus clinched the final spot on the podium, finishing just 0.01s in front of Russia's Vladimir Morozov.
