GB's Chris Walker-Hebborn: 'My 100m backstroke heat went to plan'

Great Britain's Chris Walker-Hebborn has insisted that he is satisfied with his performance in the 100m backstroke heats at the World Championships in Kazan.

The three-time European champion was the first to touch the wall in his heat, clocking a time of 53.64 seconds to reach tonight's semi-finals.

"That was good for me," swimming.org quotes Walker-Hebborn as saying. "I had to see where I was at the turn and I could see I was up there.

"Then I just tried to control the back end. I knew as long as I could place quite highly in my heat, I'd be alright for the semi and that's worked."

Walker-Hebborn will be joined by compatriot Liam Tancock in the semi-finals.
