Proud: 'I could have raced faster'

Great Britain's Ben Proud has insisted that he could have raced faster after finishing eighth in the 50m butterfly final at the World Championships in Kazan.

The 20-year-old clocked a time of 23.39 seconds, while France's Florent Manaudou took gold in 22.97s.

"It wasn't my race today," Proud told BBC Sport. "It's a little disappointing. I knew the times wouldn't be as fast as last night, but it's all a learning experience. I think I could have done faster, but maybe next time."

Just 0.42 seconds separated the entire field.
