Russia lead in synchronised swimming teams event

Russia's dominance of Olympic synchronised swimming looks likely to continue after they secured a lead in the teams competition.

The Eastern Europeans won over the judges with a Russia dance-themed repertoire that earned them a score of 98.100 and first place in the technical routine phase.

China, who won bronze in the duets, finished in second with a complex routine set against a foreboding classical score. Spain took third ahead of Canada and Japan.

Lead by Jenna Randall and Olivia Federici, Team GB swam to a dramatic composition by Paganini. They picked up a score of 87.300 to finish in sixth.

Scores from the technical routine will be carried over to tomorrow's free routine final where medals are up for grabs.
