Team GB backstroke expert Liam Tancock puts his recent success in the pool down to ballet classes.

Team GB backstroke expert Liam Tancock has admitted that he is taking ballet classes to improve his swimming.

The Exeter swimmer, who secured a place in the semi-finals of the men's 100m backstroke earlier today, is attributing his recent success "thinking outside the box".

"We are thinking outside the box and it seems to be working," The Sun quotes the 27-year-old as saying. "We're all macho but we put 110% into everything we do."

Tancock went on to say that the ballet sessions have boosted his body strength, but he is not a natural at the art form, unlike his Loughborough teammate Grant Turner.

He added: "The teacher told him he could become a ballet dancer. I never got that. I'm a bit clumpy and heavy."

The men's 100m backstroke semi-final takes place at 8.28pm this evening.
