Spofforth targets improvement

Team GB backstroke swimmer Gemma Spofforth has admitted that she needs to raise her game to book a place in the women's 100m final this evening.

Spofforth, who qualified for the semi-finals with a time of 1:00.05 during the heats, admitted that she has much to improve on in the next phase.

She wrote on Twitter: "Lots to improve on for tonight. Got a lane and living in the moment. Thanks so much to everyone for their support - means the world."

The British hopeful reached the last sixteen alongside compatriot Georgia Davies, who turned in a time of 59.92s to finish sixth overall.

The women's 100m backstroke semi-finals takes place this evening from 8.28pm.
