Team Scotland star Michael Jamieson believes that young swimmer Ross Murdoch is moving the sport forward following his gold medal triumph at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Jamieson, who won an Olympic silver at London 2012, was the hot favourite to earn top spot on the podium at his home Games, but his 20-year-old fellow Scotsman shocked the odds to win the 200m breaststroke final.
The 25-year-old failed to hide his disappointment at falling short and claiming silver, but has suggested that Murdoch and 19-year-old Adam Peaty are emerging as Britain's top male stars.
"Ross is such a talent - him and Adam Peaty - these young lads, 20 and 19 years old," Jamieson told Sports Mole. "Adam's about three inches taller than me and heavier.
"These guys have just moved the event on again and I think myself and Andrew [Willis] moved it on in 2011-12. I managed to back that up last year, but obviously with injury I couldn't do it in a major meet. Ross and Adam have just moved on the 100m and the 200m this year, so, they deserve to be at the top of the rankings."
Willis claimed bronze in tonight's final at Tollcross.
