Karen Muir dies aged 60

Former South African swimmer Karen Muir has passed away aged 60 following a long battle with breast cancer.

Muir become the youngest-ever world record holder in any sport when she triumphed at the 1965 ASA National Junior Championships aged just 12.

She also won 22 South African Championships, but did not appear in any Olympic Games due to a ban imposed on South Africa.

After retiring from swimming, Muir qualified as a doctor.
