Germany wins 400m freestyle gold

Germany's Paul Hentschel has won the 400m freestyle gold medal at the European Games in a time of 3:52.43.

He finished narrowly ahead of Greece's Dimitrios Dimitriou (2:52.57), with Russia's Ernest Maksumov (3:52.65) claiming the bronze.

Hentschel qualified for the final in the slowest time, and started in lane one.

Great Britain's Cameron Kurle, Kyle Chisholm and Tom Derbyshire exited the competition after the heats.
