Judd Trump has claimed the UK Championship title at his first attempt with a 10-8 win over Mark Allen at the Barbican in York.

Allen opened the contest the stronger as the Northern Irishman secured himself a 3-1 lead. However, some superb positional play by Trump saw the Bristolian claim the next four frames to start the evening 5-3 ahead.

Trump proved to be too good for his opponent at the start off the second session as he raced into an 8-3 lead.

After taking the next frame to halve the deficit, a spirited Allen made a break of 133 to make the score 8-5.

Despite Allen's fightback, Trump took a tense 14th frame to leave him one away from the title.

Desperately clinging on to his championship hopes, Allen produced his third century break to keep him in the match.

In front of an expectant Barbican crowd, Trump then missed a comfortable red which allowed Allen to claw himself even further back into the final and make the score 9-7.

A break of 95 saw Allen get to within one frame of Trump, but the 22-year-old held his nerve to claim his first major title.
