Liang Wenbo has defeated Elliot Slessor 6-2 in the first round of the UK Championship.

The Chinese snooker player just failed to make 100th maximum break as he missed the final yellow in the eight frame after pocketing 15 reds and blacks.

Michael White of Wales was a heavy winner on Wednesday as he got the better of Joe Swail 6-0 at the Barbican Centre in York.

Scotland's Marcus Campbell has also progressed to the second round of the competition with a narrow 6-5 triumph over 15-year-old Lyu Haotian, while Andrew Higginson eased past Hammad Miah 6-2.
