Ronnie O'Sullivan seals his place in the World Snooker Championship quarter-finals with a comprehensive win over Mark Allen.

Ronnie O'Sullivan has booked his place in the quarter-finals of the World Snooker Championship with a 13-4 victory over Mark Allen.

Having won each of the first two sessions by a 6-2 scoreline, the six-time world champion was left with a seemingly routine task ahead of the final third of the contest.

As expected, O'Sullivan did not give his opponent a glimmer of a miracle comeback, taking the 17th frame to seal a spot in the last eight for the 20th time.

The veteran will now take on Stephen Maguire, who caused his second surprise of the tournament by defeating seventh seed Zhao Xintong by a 13-9 scoreline.

Eighth seed Mark Williams is also through to the quarter-finals, with five other matches to be decided over the weekend.

In Friday's afternoon session, a pigeon briefly disrupted the clash between Mark Selby and Yan Bingtao, the Chinese player having now established a 9-7 advantage.
