Police re-open inquiry into Roebuck death

Police in South Africa have re-opened an inquiry into the death of former Somerset captain Peter Roebuck.

The batsman's death, which was the result of a fall from a hotel window in Cape Town in 2011, was initially ruled a suicide following allegations that the 55-year-old had sexually assaulted a Zimbabwean man.

A representative for the Englishman's family told the Daily Mail: "After four years of pushing for an open inquest into Peter's death, we look forward to his family and its legal teams in South Africa and England finally being given the evidence they have been denied.

"With it will come the chance for them, and all those who believed in Peter, to ask the witnesses present when he lost his life the questions they want answered about events on the night of November 12, 2011."

Roebuck's family were unhappy that the verdict of suicide was passed without their lawyers being involved or further evidence being presented to the court.
