Williams hopes to build fashion empire

Wimbledon champion Serena Williams has revealed that she hopes to build a fashion empire when she retires from professional tennis.

The 33-year-old is on course to claim a calendar Grand Slam after triumphs at the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon this year.

Ahead of the US Open at Flushing Meadows, Williams has revealed in an interview with New York Magazine that she once attended a few college-level design classes in the hope of becoming a wedding dress designer.

"That was my first real love, but then I was like, 'listen, I'm playing professional tennis, I'll just do athletic wear'," said Williams.

The sportswoman, who has won 21 Grand Slam titles, has her own line called Serena Williams Signature Statement, which is sold on HSN.
