Serena Williams "devastated" by Caroline Wozniacki, Rory McIlroy split

World number one tennis star Serena Williams has admitted that she was "devastated" for fellow player and friend Caroline Wozniacki when her engagement to golfer Rory McIlroy ended.

The Northern Irishman broke off the relationship last May just days after the couple sent out their wedding invitations.

In an interview with Vogue magazine, Williams said: "I was devastated. I had planned the bachelorette party. I was impressed with how strong she was. And you know, there will be other engagement parties - many."

Wozniacki is currently ranked fifth in the world.
