Manchester United frontman Robin van Persie joins Gary Lineker in quitting Twitter.

Manchester United striker Robin van Persie has left social networking site Twitter.

The 29-year-old had been a regular tweeter up until he completed his move to United from Premier League rivals Arsenal during the summer.

However, while no official reason has been given, the Dutch international has now decided to delete his account.

Van Persie's departure has come just a day after former England centre-forward Gary Lineker quit the site for "personal reasons".
