Michael van Gerwen: 'Wedding second to PDC World Championship win'

Newly-crowned PDC world champion Michael van Gerwen admits that his wedding day will not be as special as being darts world champion.

Michael van Gerwen has said that his wedding will be the second biggest day of his life, following his PDC World Championship success earlier this week.

The Dutchman beat Peter Wright in the final at Alexandra Palace on New Year's Day to clinch the title for the first time.

The 24-year-old told The Mirror: "It is a big thing for me to be a world champion at 24, it is the most important thing in my life.

"So our wedding will be the second biggest day after winning the world championship! It was never a dream of mine to marry, but there was a dream to be world champion!"

Van Gerwen is due to marry fiancee Daphne Govers in August.
