UFC champion Jon Jones enters rehab after testing positive for cocaine

UFC champion Jon Jones has announced that he has entered a drug treatment facility after testing positive for cocaine.

The 27-year-old, who successfully defended his light-heavyweight title against Daniel Cormier on Saturday, failed an out-of-competition drugs test on December 4.

Benzoylecgonine was detected in Jones's system, but he has escaped a suspension as the substance is not on the banned drugs list.

In a statement released to Yahoo, Jones said: "With the support of my family, I have entered into a drug treatment facility. I want to apologise to my fiancee, my children, as well as my mother, father, and brothers for the mistake that I made.

"I also want to apologise to the UFC, my coaches, my sponsors and equally important to my fans. I am taking this treatment program very seriously. Therefore, at this time my family and I would appreciate privacy."

Back in May 2012, Jones was fined after being charged with drunk-driving.
