Thorpe suffering from 'serious infection'

The manager of five-time Olympic gold medallist Ian Thorpe has reportedly revealed that the swimmer is suffering from a serious infection.

The Australian sportsman contracted the problem following a shoulder operation at a hospital in Sydney.

According to ABC News, Thorpe's manager James Erskine has denied reports that the 31-year-old is in intensive care, but has claimed that he is being treated with antibiotics.

In February, Thorpe was admitted to rehab after he was found looking disoriented near to his parents' home in Sydney.
