The BBC reportedly increase ticket prices to attend the Sports Personality of the Year Awards by 25%.

The price of tickets to attend the BBC's Sports Personality of the Year Awards has reportedly increased to £50.

Spectators expecting to go to the annual event will have to pay £10 more than last year as the BBC prepare to celebrate one of the longest ceremonies the awards has ever seen, according to The Metro.

MP Philip Davies, who is part of the culture, media and sport select committee, said: "It will be tickets for the rich."

British cyclist Bradley Wiggins - who became the first Brit to win the Tour de France as well as grab another Olympic gold medal - was the early favourite to pick up the award, but Team GB's success at the London 2012 Games and Andy Murray's victory at the US Open has opened up the contest.
