Sony calls for Qatar World Cup investigation

World Cup sponsor Sony calls on FIFA to investigate claims that Qatar used bribery to stage the 2022 World Cup.

World Cup sponsor Sony has called on FIFA to investigate claims that Qatar bought votes to stage the 2022 World Cup.

It was reported last week that the nation had paid officials around £3m to help secure the tournament.

Members of Qatar's bidding committee have since denied that there was any wrongdoing in their successful campaign.

"As a FIFA partner, we expect these allegations to be investigated appropriately," Sony said in a statement to The Sunday Times.

"We continue to expect FIFA to adhere to its principles of integrity, ethics and fair play across all aspects of its operations."

Figures from around the world of football, including Football Association chairman Greg Dyke, have urged FIFA to stage a re-vote following the allegations.
