Sky Sports secures rights to screen Kovalev, Ward

Sky Sports has announced that it has secured the rights to screen the world light-heavyweight title showdown between Sergey Kovalev and Andre Ward.

Less than two weeks after Gennady Golovkin got the better of Kell Brook in their world middleweight contest on Sky Box Office, the broadcaster has revealed that it will now show a fight that is widely regarded as the clash of the year.

Since beating Wales's Nathan Cleverly to become WBO champion, Kovalev has made eight successful defences of the belt as well as capturing the IBF and WBA crowns in the process.

Ward is considered to be one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world, but he faces the biggest test of his career as he makes just his third appearance in the 175lbs division.

The American holds victories over Carl Froch, Mikkel Kessler, Chad Dawson and Arthur Abraham at super-middleweight.
