Maria Sharapova: 'I'd hate Grigor Dimitrov to propose to me on court'

Former world number one tennis star Maria Sharapova has admitted that she would hate for her boyfriend Grigor Dimitrov to propose to her in public.

The Russian sportswoman has been dating her fellow tennis player for just over two years, but has claimed that she would be mortified if Dimitrov got down on one knee on the court.

During an interview on Channel Ten's The Project, when asked about the proposal idea, Sharapova said: "That's horrible. I don't like spectacle. That has never really been my style I prefer more private, intimate occasions."

The 27-year-old was previously engaged to Slovenian basketball player Sasha Vujacic, but the pair split up in 2012.
