The wife of former Sunderland striker and chairman Niall Quinn has warned fellow footballers' wives that they should not over-spend their fortune.
Gillian, 40, has revealed that she and Quinn, who had stints at Arsenal and Manchester City, planned for the future over concerns that their money could dry up.
"You don't know what other players are earning or whether they had blown every penny but I did think to myself a few times 'you are in for a hell of a shock once the footballer stops earning'," Gillian told the Daily Mail.
"It was never jealousy or anything like that, but we just knew that we had to think in the long term. We have never gone in for major excesses when it comes to spending, we are just a normal couple really."
Since leaving his role as Black Cats chairman, Quinn has since picked up a punditry role on Sky Sports.
