Pistorius murder case postponed

The murder case of Paralympic champion Oscar Pistorius, who is alleged to have shot his girlfriend dead, has been postponed until Tuesday next week.

The 26-year-old broke down in tears when he was formally charged with one count of murder following the death of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, who was found at his home in Pretoria with bullet wounds to the head and upper body.

The double amputee, who was sobbing throughout the hearing, will remain in custody at the police station as opposed to a local prison until next week, when Pistorius's lawyers will lodge an application for bail.

The prosecution claimed in Pretoria Magistrates' Court that they will argue a case for premeditated murder.
