The 26-year-old will stand trial in March, with the prosecution accusing the double amputee of premeditated murder after discovering that Steenkamp was shot multiple times through a bathroom door at Pistorius's home.

"I can confirm that a team of forensic specialists from the United States is in the country at the moment working with Oscar's defense team," The Mirror quotes Pistorius's spokeswoman Anneliese Burgess as saying.

"We don't want to go into any further details except that its very standard practice to work with specialists in various fields in preparation for any trial."

Pistorius, who shot Steenkamp on Valentine's Day, is currently on bail in Pretoria, South Africa.
