Oscar Pistorius denied leave to appeal murder conviction

Oscar Pistorius is denied leave to appeal against his conviction for murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

South African athlete Oscar Pistorius has been denied leave to appeal against his conviction for murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

The Constitutional Court has made the ruling, so Pistorius will now be sentenced on April 18.

Six-time Paralympic gold medallist Pistorius, 29, killed Steenkamp in February 2013 by firing a gun four times through a locked toilet door.

He was originally convicted of manslaughter, but that was changed to murder in December after it was determined that mistakes had been made in the original trial.

Prosecutors are reportedly seeking a prison term of at least 15 years for Pistorius, who has always maintained that he believed he was shooting at an intruder.
