Phelps to play in pro-am golf event

Former American swimmer Michael Phelps is due to appear at a pro-am gold event held at the Dunhill Links in Scotland next week.

The 27-year-old, who retired from swimming following London 2012 after becoming the most decorated Olympian with 22 medals, will take to the course with Tiger Woods's former coach Hank Haney.

Phelps, who started to learn how to play golf in 2008, has teamed up with the coach for a golf reality TV show.

The American athlete will be joined by South African Paralympian Oscar Pistorius on the course next week.
