Pele's son Edinho arrested after losing appeal in money laundering case

Pele's son arrested after losing appeal

Pele's son Edinho has been arrested in Brazil after losing his appeal against a sentence for money laundering.

The 44-year-old, whose real name is Edson Cholbi do Nascimento, was jailed for 33 years back in June for laundering money for a drug gang.

The former goalkeeper was allowed to live in public during the appeal process, but will now remain in jail after he was rejected, according to The AP.

Edinho, who was first arrested back in 2005, is permitted to lodge another appeal to a higher court, but judge Suzana Pereira ruled that the former footballer must stay in jail for the duration.

Meanwhile, Pele, who is yet to comment on the arrest, underwent surgery to remove kidney stones last week.
