John Paintsil arrested for stabbing wife

Former Fulham defender John Paintsil has been arrested in Ghana for allegedly stabbing his wife in the eye.

The 31-year-old is thought to have reacted violently after his wife confronted him about allegations that he slept with prostitutes during the Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa earlier this month.

Paintsil, who now plays his club football with Israeli side Hapoel Tel Aviv, has been denied bail and is likely to spend the weekend in a police cell, according to Goal.com.

He is also understood to have attacked a neighbour who tried to help his wife.
