Sky Sports signs a deal to show NBA matches live for the rest of the 2013 season, starting with next week's match at the O2 Arena between the New York Knicks and Detroit Pistons.

Sky Sports have signed a deal to show live NBA games for the rest of the 2013 season, with the agreement including playoff matches.

The deal will begin on Thursday, January 17 with live coverage of the NBA'a third regular-season game in the United Kingdom, featuring the New York Knicks against the Detroit Pistons at the O2 Arena.

Barney Francis, managing director of Sky Sports, believes that adding the NBA to its portfolio is an important acquisition.

He said: "This agreement provides even more live content for our customers to watch at home or on the move. The NBA has a strong fan base in the UK and the sold-out game at the O2 promises to be a great sporting spectacle.

"We follow NBA London Live 2013 with primetime Sunday night games for the remainder of the regular-season and the drama of the post-season."

Sky will show Sunday night double headers, the Eastern Conference finals and every game of the NBA Finals as part of deal which sees the channel share basketball coverage with ESPN.
