Nadal poses for trophy picture with Ronaldo

Rafael Nadal celebrated winning the men's title at the inaugural Rio Open by posing for a photo with former Brazilian football star Ronaldo.

The event saw the eight-time Roland Garros champion return to competitive tennis following his injury-affected defeat to Stanislas Wawrinka in the Australian Open final in January.

After beating Daniel Gimeno-Traver, Albert Montanes and Joao Sousa in straight sets, Nadal survived two match points en route to seeing off Pablo Andujar 2-6 6-3 7-6 in the semis in Rio.

The world number one then overcame Alexandr Dolgopolov 6-3 7-6 in Sunday's final to win the 43rd ATP clay title of his illustrious career.

His triumph landed him one of the Tour's most uniquely-styled trophies, which Ronaldo, 37, gave him some temporary assistance to carry.
