Former Chelsea forward Adrian Mutu has revealed that he wants to adopt the baby who was flushed down a toilet in China.
The child, dubbed 'baby 59', was saved by medics and firefighters, who cut through a pipe to retrieve the baby in Jinhua, in China's eastern province of Zhejing.
Following the news, Mutu is said to have told Romanian channel ProTV that he wants to take the baby into his own care.
"I intend to adopt this baby," said Mutu. "I couldn't figure out how to carry on living, how to eat my breakfast when I saw this story on TV. He's a special child. When I saw the baby I said, 'I must adopt him, he has been sent to me by God.'"
The 34-year-old, who has three children, was sacked by Chelsea in 2004 after failing a drugs test.
