Andy Murray: 'I want my daughter to be proud of me'

Tennis star Andy Murray says that he wants his daughter Sophia to be "proud" of him when she is older.

Two-time Grand Slam tennis champion Andy Murray has claimed that he wants his daughter Sophia to be "proud of her dad".

The Scotsman's wife Kim Sears gave birth to the couple's first child three weeks ago.

Murray will return to competitive action for the first time since Sophia's birth when he represents Great Britain in the Davis Cup later this week.

"[Fatherhood] is a positive thing, and tennis not being your priority can help," Murray told The Guardian. "It lends perspective when you have a bad loss or bad practice.

"The outcome of a match is not everything but I want my daughter to be proud of her dad when she grows up and sees what I did. I hope it works out in a positive way on the court but if it doesn't, it's not the end of the world."

Murray and his Davis Cup teammates will take on Japan in the World Group series from March 4 to March 6.
