Fabrice Muamba says that he turned down appearing on ITV show I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here because he is "not interested" in fame.

Former Bolton Wanderers midfielder Fabrice Muamba has revealed that he turned down the chance to appear on reality show I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here because he is not "interested" in being considered as a celebrity.

The 24-year-old was forced to retire from the professional game after suffering a cardiac arrest midway through an FA Cup clash against Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane last season.

Since then, the former midfielder has been focusing on the release of his autobiography I'm Still Standing and he has insisted that he wants to "enjoy life".

"If I knew that the doctors gave me the all-clear to go out training tomorrow, that would be great," The Express quotes Muamba as saying. "But I can't. I really adjusted my life so I don't worry about that.

"I am just happy to be able to do things. I want to learn how to swim. I want to enjoy life, do different things, explore different things that I would not have been able to do as a footballer.

"I was asked to go to the [I'm a Celebrity] jungle but I thought this is not for me. I'm not a celebrity. I'm not interested in that."

Muamba emerged on the pitch at White Hart Lane last night during the half-time interval in Spurs' Europa League 3-1 win over Maribor to thank the fans for their support following his collapse.
