Former world number one golfer Rory McIlroy undergoes laser eye surgery

Former world number one golfer Rory McIlroy has undergone laser eye surgery.

The Northern Irishman, who is now third in the rankings, has needed glasses since the age of 10, but has been wearing contact lenses during his professional career.

Now, though, McIlroy, who won the Race to Dubai last month, has improved his vision ahead of the 2016 season.

The golfer uploaded a picture of himself wearing protective eyewear to Instagram and added the caption: "Human version of the dreaded K-9 cone.... Only for sleeping though! Laser eye surgery went well yesterday."
