'Match of the Day' presenter Gary Lineker wanted by BT Sport?

BT Sport is allegedly hoping to poach Gary Lineker from the BBC for its football coverage.

BT Sport are plotting to poach Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker from the BBC, according to a report.

The former Tottenham Hotspur striker could be willing to jump ship if the BBC loses the rights to show Premier League highlights, according to the Daily Mail.

The Premier League rights tender will be held next month, with the BBC and BT vying with other broadcasters for a slice of the action.

BT are said to have made initial approaches to Lineker last summer with a view to securing him as the host for their Champions League coverage, but the broadcaster is rumoured to be biding its time before tabling a formal offer as the upcoming auction could decide his future.

Lineker, who also works for US network NBC, is contracted to the BBC for one more season beyond the current term.
