Actor Jack O'Connell wants to play troubled ex-footballer Paul Gascoigne on screen

Jack O'Connell wants Gascoigne role

English actor Jack O'Connell has revealed that he wants to play troubled former England footballer Paul Gascoigne in one of his future film roles.

The Unbroken star made no hesitation when asked by Zoe Ball on the red carpet of last night's BAFTA's in London who he would most like to play on screen.

The Derby-born actor said: "Paul Gascoigne. I know all the words to Fog On The Tyne."

The former Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder is never far away from the headlines having spent years battling alcohol addiction.

O'Connell won the Rising Star award during last night's ceremony, beating Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Miles Teller, Margot Robbie and Shailene Woodley.
